Multi-skilled maintenance engineer required to work on high-speed production & packaging lines. Carrying out PPM, breakdown maintenance, fault-finding and rectification. The majority of breakdowns are mechanical but a good appreciation of electrical fault finding is essential.

Essential Skills

• Maintenance of packaging or process machinery, within a continuous production environment

Initially they are looking for a Maintenance Technician to work a double day shift for a period of approximately 2 months before being transferred to a continental shift pattern. Although the position is initially on a contract basis, it is with the full intention of making the role permanent on completion of a 16 week probationary period. My client is looking for the very ‘best’ engineers; individuals who are looking to further their career within an exciting and fast-moving work environment.

The Maintenance role is a shift role and is as follows:

7 weeks on continental days (4 on, 4 off) including over the weekend.   

Followed by 4 weeks of 12 hour nights (only Monday to Thursday).

They currently have an opportunity for a ‘Maintenance Technician’ to join their engineering team.

The main duties of this role are as follows:

• Competency in Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical Fault Finding
• City and Guilds Mechanical and Electrical Qualification 236
• 17th Edition qualification desirable.
• Electronics 224 (or equivalent) would be an advantage
• Basic machining / fabrication experience
• Ability to read engineering drawings
• 3 yrs minimum manufacturing maintenance experience  
• Good communication and organisation skills
• Facilities Maintenance experience an advantage
• Ability to work closely with a small team

Specialised machinery includes; extrusion plant, press/punch shop, tube-forming & drilling equipment. The majority of the machinery is bespoke and purpose built for this production facility.

Candidates should be multi-skilled with the know-how to deal with electrics, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics and PLCs. Strong problem solving skills and an analytical approach is highly desirable. Previous experience of PPM and continuous improvement projects is also beneficial.

The jobholder ensures that preventive and corrective maintenance tasks are performed effectively, constantly considering all related safety aspects in the process.            

Main duties

1          Indentify and implement line and process improvements

2          Ensures the lines are safe to operate

3          Plan line preventive maintenance, involved in capex preparations (improvements & commissioning)

4          Contribute towards training line staff and apprentices

5          Set up, adjust and run production lines

6          Monitors line efficiency, downtime, contributing in relevant action plans in order to improve it, when required

7          Ensures that all quality controls are taking place and that line spoilage, isolations and customer complaints are   constantly under review, including the necessary actions to improve

10        Involved in technical projects when required
